Cooling Cucumber & Mint Refresher

A hydrating lick-mat topper that's become our go-to for Shiro's 'post-nap' cool down.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Grated Cucumber (I peel it first to keep it extra soft)
  • 2-3 tbsp Plain, Fresh Curd
  • 2 fresh Mint Leaves (torn into tiny, tiny bits)
  • A splash of water if it’s too thick

Health Notes

Verification

Since cucumber is mostly water, it’s a brilliant way to sneak extra hydration into dogs who aren't great drinkers. Just keep the mint amount low—a little goes a long way.

Shiro's Method

1

Grate the cucumber and squeeze it slightly—if it's too watery, it'll just slide off the lick mat.

2

Stir it into the curd. Shiro usually starts hovering in the kitchen the moment he smells the cucumber.

3

Add the mint bits. It gives him surprisingly good 'dog breath' after he's done.

4

Spread it thin on a lick mat. If I'm on a long work call, I freeze it for 15 minutes first to make it last longer.

5

Watch them enjoy! Shiro takes about 10 minutes to finish a frozen one.

Storage

Best eaten fresh! The cucumber can get a bit funky if it sits in the fridge for more than a day.

Serving Amount

1/4 to 1/2 cup
