Festival Kaddu & Singhaara Crunch Bites: Dog-Safe Diwali Mithai Swap
“Crispy, grain-free baked autumn treats made from vitamin-packed pumpkin purée, water chestnut flour (singhaara atta), and virgin coconut oil so your dog can celebrate Diwali safely.”
Ingredients
- 1 cup pure roasted Indian pumpkin purée (kaddu, unsalted and unspiced)
- 1.5 cups pure water chestnut flour (singhaara atta, naturally grain-free and gluten-free)
- 2 tablespoons cold-pressed virgin coconut oil (melted gently)
- 1 farm-fresh egg (whisked lightly)
- 1 tiny pinch Ceylon cinnamon powder (natural anti-inflammatory fragrance; never use toxic nutmeg)
Health Notes
Verification
“Water chestnut flour (singhaara) is a traditional Indian fasting staple made from dried singhaara nuts. It is naturally grain-free, hypoallergenic, low in glycemic index, and extremely gentle on sensitive digestive tracts. Paired with beta-carotene-rich pumpkin, these treats satisfy your dog's festive desire without triggering pancreatitis.”
Perfect For
All life stages from 4 months upward. Excellent for dogs with wheat, corn, or gluten allergies.
Shiro's Method
Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with unbleached parchment paper.
In a large ceramic mixing bowl, whisk together the roasted pumpkin purée, melted coconut oil, and whisked egg until silky and uniform.
Gradually fold in the singhaara atta and tiny pinch of Ceylon cinnamon, kneading with clean hands until a soft, pliable, non-sticky dough forms.
Roll the dough out between two sheets of parchment paper to roughly 1/4 inch thickness.
Use small cookie cutters (bones or paw shapes) to stamp out festive biscuits, placing them 1 inch apart on the lined baking sheet.
Bake at 175°C for 22 to 25 minutes until the edges are golden brown and crisp.
Turn off the oven, prop the oven door open slightly with a wooden spoon, and leave the biscuits inside for 15 minutes to dry out and crisp up completely.
Allow biscuits to cool completely on a wire rack before offering them as celebratory festive treats.
Storage
Store in an airtight glass jar in a cool pantry for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Serving Amount
1 to 2 biscuits daily for small dogs; 3 to 4 biscuits daily for large dogs as an approved festive reward.
