Roasted Pumpkin & Ashwagandha Calming Autumn Mash
“A creamy seasonal meal topper combining fiber-dense roasted pumpkin, gentle adaptogenic Indian ashwagandha, pasture-raised egg yolk, and soaked chia seeds to soothe pre-festival stress.”
Ingredients
- 2 cups ripe orange Indian pumpkin (kaddu, peeled, deseeded, and chopped into chunks)
- 1/4 teaspoon pure organic ashwagandha root powder (Withania somnifera, human-grade adaptogen)
- 1 pasture-raised fresh egg yolk (poached softly or soft-scrambled with zero butter or oil)
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds (soaked in 3 tablespoons warm water for 20 minutes until a protective gel forms)
- 1 tablespoon raw unsalted hulled pumpkin seeds (pepitas, crushed finely in a mortar for natural zinc)
Health Notes
Verification
“Ashwagandha has been shown in canine clinical trials to modulate cortisol levels and promote calm alpha brain waves during acute environmental stress, such as pre-Diwali cracker noise. Soluble pumpkin fiber balances digestion and softens transitions during the seasonal coat blow.”
Perfect For
Dogs aged 6 months and older. Not recommended for pregnant or lactating females.
Shiro's Method
Steam or oven-roast the pumpkin chunks at 180°C for 20 to 25 minutes until fork-tender and aromatic.
Transfer the warm pumpkin into a blending bowl and mash thoroughly with a fork into a silky, lump-free purée.
Stir in the 1/4 teaspoon of organic ashwagandha powder while the mash is comfortably warm, ensuring complete and even dispersal.
Gently fold in the prepared chia seed gel, which adds soothing soluble mucilage.
Soft-boil or lightly poach the farm egg yolk (leaving the yolk warm and runny), then place it in the center of the mash bowl.
Garnish with a sprinkle of crushed raw pepita seeds right before serving to add satisfying crunch and bioavailable zinc.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Serving Amount
1 to 2 tablespoons as a soothing evening topper for medium breeds; 3 to 4 tablespoons for large breeds (Shiro's portion).
