Shiro's First Summer: Lessons from a Hot Puppy

A personal story about navigating the intense Indian heat with a fluffy Golden Retriever puppy for the first time.

When we brought Shiro home in January, he was a tiny ball of fluff. By the time April rolled around, he was a much bigger ball of fluff, and the heat was starting to climb.

During that first summer, our living room looked like a cooling station. We had three different fans and a constant rotation of ice packs. We learned that Shiro would always find the exact spot where the tiles were coolest, usually right under the dining table. The biggest lesson was about walk times—we had to become 'early birds' to get his exercise in before the sun became too intense.

The Shiro Solution

What actually worked

  • Early morning walks (before 7 AM) and creating a dedicated cool-zone in the apartment with fans and tile access.
